Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – It’s back to the road for Austin Peay State University track and field this week, as the Lady Govs travel to Carbondale, IL, for the SIU Invitational at the SIU Recreation Center. This two-day event begins 10:00am, Friday, with the pentathlon before resuming, 10:00am, Saturday, with the shot put.

Eleven schools will send competitors to this event, including five from the Ohio Valley Conference; in addition to Austin Peay, athletes from Jacksonville State, Murray State, Southeast Missouri and UT Martin are scheduled to compete, along with familiar foes from Lipscomb and host Southern Illinois.

Reigning OVC Track Athlete of the Week Breigh Jones will be a busy runner this weekend; the Memphis, TN native will take part in the 60m, 200m and 4x400m for the Lady Govs, leading a 10-runner 200m squad and heading up a relay team with the top mark in the meet entering Saturday’s competition.

Sophomore Amia Butler will reprise her role in the women’s pentathlon; the school-record holder in the event, Butler looks to bounce back from a no-height in the high jump two weeks ago at the Gladstein Invitational.

Saturday’s 60m relays should offer good competition for both Butler and sophomore Myiah Johnson in the 60m hurdles; it features three runners – Arkansas State’s Emenderlyn Iwuji, Murray State’s LaShea Shaw and Southern Illinois’ Remy Abrought – with sub 8.6-second marks this season.

A week after posting her first 12-meter mark of the season in the triple jump, sophomore Kaylnn Pitts will be back in the lists again this week. She’ll be joined by sophomore Chancis Jones, who missed last week’s meet, and freshman Keyondria Ross.

After putting up a personal-best a week ago in the 800m, senior Jessica Gray leads a 36-runner field into this week’s event. Sophomore Molly Jordan also looks to improve on last week’s mark, which fell shy of her personal-best by seven-tenths of a second.

The Lady Govs see their season continue next weekend at the Spire Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.
