High School Basketball Recap for Clarksville - Montgomery County TennesseeClarksville, TN – The tight race in District 10-AAA high school boys basketball came to an end last Friday. A new regular season champion was crowned and the runner up was part of a three-way tie. Although one race is done, the District 10-AAA Tournament will be another one decided by a photo finish.

Since 2015 began, the Northwest Vikings (16-10) have won 7-of-10 games. It was enough for them to become this season’s District 10-AAA regular season champion. After defeating the Henry County Patriots for the second time this season last Tuesday, the Vikings finished the season with a 65-71 loss to the Springfield Yellow Jackets.

Northwest Boy’s Basketball are the top seed in the upcoming District 10-AAA tournament.

However, a loss by last season’s champion, the Kenwood Knights, helped them secure the top seed in the upcoming District 10-AAA tournament.

Like the Vikings, the Northeast Eagles (12-12) climbed up the district rankings by finishing the season strong. The Eagles won five of their last six games including two district wins last week against the Knights and the West Creek Coyotes.

The final two wins put them in a three-way tie with the Knights and Clarksville High Wildcats. The Knights had beaten the Wildcats twice this season, but the Eagles final win against the Knights was their second this season as well, giving them the tie-breaker and the second seed in the district tournament.

The Knights (16-9) controlled their fate with a chance to repeat as regular season champions coming into last week. They trailed the Vikings by only one game and had split games against them earlier this season. With the Vikings loss to Springfield, they could have repeated with a win against the Eagles last Friday after defeating the Rossview Hawks last Tuesday, 52-45. However, the Eagles won, 44-37, dropping the Knights down to third in the district.

The Wildcats (12-11) won their last two games last week against the Yellow Jackets and the Henry County Patriots. It was enough for them to grab the fourth seed in the District 10-AAA tournament and host a home game.

The Yellow Jackets (15-12) had a shot at the top half of the District 10-AAA bracket going into the last week. The Wildcats took that shot by beating them by one point, 44-45, last Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets rebounded with a win against the Vikings in their regular season finale. As the fifth seed, they will open the district tournament in a rematch against the Wildcats.

The end of January was rough for the Patriots (8-16). They finished the regular season with a six game losing streak and fell to the bottom half of the district bracket. With losses to the Vikings and Wildcats last week, they go into the district tournament as the sixth seed.

The Hawks (13-10) ended the regular season with a 54-49 district win over the Coyotes. Since the beginning of 2015 they have won 5-of-10 games. They will be the seventh seed, above the last place Coyotes (4-23) who had only one district win all season.

The Montgomery Central Indians (15-11, 9-7) ended the season with three straight losses including two district losses against Waverly Central and Stewart County last week. As the fourth seed in the District 11-AA Tournament, they will play Stewart County again in the first round Wednesday, February 11th.

The Clarksville Academy Cougars (6-16, 3-9) broke a six game losing streak by defeating East Robertson 65-59 last Tuesday. They will be the sixth seed in the District 10-A tournament and play Nashville Christian in the first round, Tuesday, February 10th.
