National Weather Service reports Frigid Weather and possible Snow for Clarksville – Montgomery County

National Weather ServiceNashville, TN – The National Weather Service (NWS) says there will be at least three periods of weather this weekend and into the first part of next week that will bring some type of significant weather to the Clarksville-Montgomery County area as well as Middle Tennessee.

As early as Saturday afternoon, a cold front will sweep into the Mid-State. There will be snow chances behind this front Saturday evening, with up to a half inch possible on the plateau and a dusting to a quarter inch for the rest of the area.

Saturday`s front will also usher in very windy conditions. West to northwest winds of 15 to 20 mph will be possible with gusts of 30 to 35 mph. Combined with the cold air behind the front, wind chills will likely fall between zero and minus ten degrees Saturday night into Sunday morning.

With the cold air already in place, more precipitation will start to move into Western Middle Tennessee Sunday evening. Snow accumulations will be possible for many,  1 to 3 inches is not out of the question, with the best chances along and west of Interstate 65 Sunday night into Monday morning.

In addition to the snow, Middle Tennessee Counties along the Alabama state line will run the risk of a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet during this same time frame. Forecast confidence regarding the location of the highest snow accumulations is low at this time.

Another chance for snow accumulations will occur Tuesday. Confidence is even lower for this part of the forecast, but the best chance for any winter precipitation Tuesday will be south of Interstate 40, closer to the Alabama state line.

Please check back with us over the weekend for the latest forecast thinking on all of these scenarios.
