An invite-only meet, Austin Peay’s six competitors will square off against foes from Ohio State, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Mississippi State, Michigan, Penn State and Pittsburgh, among other squads.

“This is a high-quality meet and we’re pleased to put some athletes in there against good competition,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “I look for our kids to be pushed by the competition and come out of Saturday with some great times and finishes.”

Junior Breigh Jones will get back to her specialty this week. After taking a couple of weeks to break the school 60m record and earn the top 200m mark in the Ohio Valley Conference this season, Jones will put her league-leading 400m mark on the line, Saturday, at 1:20pm.

A pair of Lady Govs will run in the 60m dash, with preliminaries scheduled for a noon start. Senior Erika Adams looks to pass Jones again and reclaim her spot atop Austin Peay’s all-time 60m list, and will be joined by junior Lamontra Robinson, who will also be Austin Peay’s only Friday night competitor in the 200m dash.

Having consistently been near the 2:15 mark over the last three meets, senior Jessica Gray hopes that a fast field might move her ever closer to Austin Peay’s all-time 800m mark; as it stands, Gray enters the weekend trailing Sheena Gooding’s 2002 mark by nearly eight seconds.

Sophomore Kaylnn Pitts looks to keep climbing up the national charts in the triple jump. Entering the weekend ranked 56th nationally, Pitts has raised her distance each of the last three meets, culminating in a season-best 12.40m leap at last weekend’s SIU Invitational, earning her second consecutive win in the event. She will be supplemented by classmate Chancis Jones, who will compete in the triple jump as well as the long jump for Austin Peay.

A full contingent of Lady Gov track and field athletes looks to be refreshed and ready to go again next week at the Buckeye Tune-Up in Columbus, Ohio, the final meet for Austin Peay before the OVC Indoor Championships, February 27th-28th in Charleston, IL.
