Jones did not merely break the school record in the 400m dash – she annihilated it, posting a 54.01 second run that shaved nearly three-quarters of a second off the previous best, which she set earlier this season at the ETSU Invitational.

The lead she enjoyed in the event among Ohio Valley Conference runners entering the weekend widened still further, as Jones’ mark is nearly a second-and-a-half better than any put forth by any other OVC athlete in 2014-15.

Jones also moved back into the top-50 nationally in the event, moving up to 41st overall. Among athletes outside the traditional power conferences, Jones has the sixth-best 400m mark on the season.

Senior Erika Adams also shone on the track Saturday; the Weston, FL native, competing in her first 60m dash in nearly a month, advanced to the finals on the strength of a 7.70 preliminary run and finished ninth overall after hitting 7.89 in the finals.

She was joined by junior Lamontra Robinson in the 60m, where Robinson finished 28th (7.92) – Robinson also served as Austin Peay’s lone Friday night representative, where she competed in the 200m dash and finished 49th (25.91).

Saturday’s 800m event saw Jessica Gray represent the Lady Govs. The senior from Memphis finished 35th out of 64 runners with a 2:15.64 run.

Saturday did not belong only to the track stars. Sophomore Kaylnn Pitts earned another top-eight mark in the triple jump, narrowly missing her season-best with a 12.37m (40′ 0″) leap. Classmate Chancis Jones also competed for the Lady Govs in the triple jump (14th, 11.61m) and the long jump (13th, 5.28m).

A full Austin Peay squad gets back to business next weekend at the Buckeye Tune-Up in Columbus, Ohio.
