The Lady Govs return a full side to action this weekend, hoping that the time off will pay dividends during over the final two weekends of competition.

They will face off against athletes from Ohio State, Wright State, Ohio and Miami (Ohio), among others.

It will be a busy weekend for junior Breigh Jones and senior Jessica Gray. Both will compete Friday in Columbus – Jones in the 400m, Gray in the 600m – before absconding to South Bend, IN, to compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational. Jones will double-dip in the 400m, while Gray will step into the 800m at Notre Dame.

“This is a great opportunity for Jones and Gray to see top-notch competition at two different meets in the same weekend,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “As competitive as they are, the fields at these events should bring out the best in them.”

The majority of the Lady Govs will compete only at Ohio State, and that group will be led by sophomore jumper Kaylnn Pitts. The Woonsocket, RI native has passed the 12-meter mark in the triple jump at each of her last three meets, picking up wins at the Thundering Herd Invite and SIU Invitational.

Senior Erika Adams (seventh, 60m dash), sophomore Terri Morris (eighth, 400m dash), sophomores Amia Butler and Myiah Johnson (fifth, 60m hurdles) and sophomore Chancis Jones (sixth in the triple jump, eighth in the long jump) also have an opportunity to improve their standing in the penultimate indoor track and field weekend for Austin Peay.

“We’ve got a lot of athletes looking for a leg up heading into the conference meet,” Molnar said. “This will be a great test before we head to Illinois next weekend.”

The Lady Govs join the rest of the Ohio Valley Conference in Charleston, IL, next weekend for the 2015 OVC Indoor Championships, hosted by Eastern Illinois.
