Clarksville Police Department Winter Storm road conditions update for Thursday, March 5th

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – Crashes remain very low today with only one reported in the city in the last six hours. Motorist assists, however, have skyrocketed this morning with fifteen calls to E911 already.

Officers estimate there have been at least twenty more self-initiated assists when officers rolled up on stuck motorists. Many people are also making requests for welfare checks on friends and relatives within the city, especially for the elderly and handicapped, and some were officer responses to 911 hangup calls.

Road conditions remain hazardous for most of Clarksville Montgomery County.

CPD Sergeant Joe Difiore said, “Vehicle traffic has been pretty light, but I wish it was lighter. Thankfully, most people were smart enough to stay home today.”

Unfortunately, a few drivers not only didn’t stay home, but decided to travel at unsafe speeds and even intentionally slide their vehicles in circles. CPD Officers are ticketing dangerous and irresponsible motorists for reckless driving whenever they are observed.

Streets remain in very poor condition, but the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and Clarksville Street Department workers are working diligently to get at least one passable lane open on major roadways. “Improvement on local roads has been minimal. The roadways are in really bad shape, ” stated Difiore.
