Tennessee Department of Safety to use Predictive Analytics

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland SecurityNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons appeared before the House Finance, Ways and Means Committee this week to present their budget request, which includes funding for the Tennessee’s Highway Patrol (THP).

The THP is the first state law enforcement agency in the nation to use predictive analytics to deploy resources in the best possible way to prevent tragedies on Tennessee roadways.

The analytic software allows the THP to plug in crash data, weather patterns, special events and other factors to get a prediction of when and where the most serious traffic accidents are most likely to occur.

The THP can then send troopers to problem areas ahead of time, to help deter predicted crashes or to be on hand to help.

Officials believe the proactive enforcement will help deter fatalities.
