Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Commissioner John Schroer assists with Pothole Patching

Tennessee Department of TransportationNashville, TN – As you know, work is underway by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to repair the damage left behind by the recent winter storms, specifically potholes.

Great progress is being made, with crews working to cover more than 11,000 lane miles in 26 middle Tennessee counties.

The warmer weather has allowed some operations in rural counties to shift from continuous patching to monitoring conditions; however, most operations remain continuous on interstates and state routes, especially in Davidson County.

Emergency paving is also underway along areas of I-40 and I-24 near Nashville, where potholes were more numerous and severe.

Today was an especially busy day for TDOT Commissioner John Schroer. From time to time, Commissioner Schroer will shadow employees to learn about their jobs. With the abundance of potholes around the state, he knew he needed to be with pothole patching crews today. The video above is of Commissioner Schroer and other TDOT employees patching potholes on I-440 East near West End Avenue in Nashville.

Information on all pothole operations will be posted on TDOT SmartWay.

Going forward public inquiries will be directed to the online pothole information and schedule, which will remain current and active until the work is completed or the schedule is no longer deemed necessary. Also of note, the department continues to be inundated with calls and emails regarding damage claims. TDOT is NOT responsible for handling such claims.

The public should be advised to contact the Tennessee Division of Claims online at http://www.treasury.state.tn.us/ClaimsAdmin/Tort.html or by phone at 615.741.2734.
