Austin Peay will square off against a bevy of teams featuring professional runners, as well as college sides in host Georgia, Colorado State, Western Carolina and Southern Wesleyan.

The Lady Govs have been idle since the end of February after their fifth-place finish at the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor track and Field Championships in Charleston, IL.

Since then, head coach Doug Molnar has focused on getting his charges healthy for the eight-meet gauntlet awaiting them ahead of the OVC Outdoor Championships, which Austin Peay will host May 15th-16th at Governors Stadium.

Sophomores Kaylnn Pitts and Chancis Jones – both of whom medaled at the indoor championships – get their outdoor season’s underway this weekend. Pitts, who was the silver medalist in last season’s OVC Outdoor Championships, was a regional qualifier a year ago. In addition to her prowess in the hurdles, sophomore Amia Butler also is a strong jumper who led all Lady Govs a year ago with a 5.96m long jump mark during outdoor season.

Austin Peay’s track contingent will feature seniors Erika Adams and Jessica Gray, junior Breigh Jones and sophomore Myiah Johnson – all medalists at last season’s outdoor championships. And opponents can’t afford to sleep on senior Natalie Olberding, who won silver two years ago at the OVC Championships in the 400m hurdles, or an exemplary relay squad that has been buoyed by the addition of transfer Michaela McGhee.

This weekend is only the beginning for the Lady Govs. Next weekend, Austin Peay will remain in the Midstate area when it travels to Nashville for the Vanderbilt Black and Gold, a two-day event scheduled to begin Friday, March 27th.
