APSU Governors Tennis roars past Morehead State Eagles

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team extended its winning streak to five matches and remained undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play as the Govs defeated Morehead State 4-1, Friday, at the Austin Peay Indoor Tennis Center.

As a result of inclement weather and time constraints moving the match indoors, singles matches were played first and doubles matches were bypassed because Austin Peay clinched the match victory in singles action.

With the win, Austin Peay improves to 9-4 overall, with a 4-0 mark in the OVC. Morehead falls to 4-11 overall, with a 2-3 OVC record.

In singles play, the Govs were led by senior Aleksas Tverijonas who cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Sabastian Penaloza at the No. 2 position.  In other singles matches, sophomore Manuel Montenegro earned a 6-1, 6-1 win against Jose Zurro at No. 5 while senior Iago Seffrin defeated Nick Mercer 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 4 slot.

The Govs were able to clinch the match when senior Dimitar Ristovski battled back to earn a hard-fought 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position.

The Govs return to the court and continue OVC play with a 10:00am, Saturday, home contest against Eastern Kentucky at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center.
