Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUBrentwood, TN – A pair of Austin Peay State University track and field athletes took home adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors, announced Wednesday by the conference office, with junior Breigh Jones (Co-Female Track) and sophomore Kaylnn Pitts (Female Field) earning recognition.

Jones dusted the field in the 400m dash with a 53.99 in her first outdoor attempt in 2015 at the Black and Gold Invitational, hosted by Vanderbilt.

In a field loaded with competitors from around the OVC and high-level institutions such as Vanderbilt, Missouri and Illinois, Austin Peay’s diminutive dynamo was the winner by more than three-tenths of a second, with a mark that leads the OVC, ranks ninth in the region and 14th nationally.

Pitts, meanwhile, faced not just the competition but the elements in a cold, blustery Friday night triple jump event, but emerged victorious for the second week in a row thanks to a season-best 12.28m leap, ranking her second in the conference and 16th in the region through two weeks of outdoor competition.

After winning five OVC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week awards during the 2014-15 season, this is Jones’ first outdoor award not just in 2015 but in her Austin Peay career. For Pitts, it is her first career weekly honor from the conference office, and the first awarded to an Austin Peay field athlete since Amia Butler won for the week of January 29th, 2014.

Research suggests she’s the first Austin Peay field athlete to take home a weekly outdoor honor since Molly Bartkiewicz won for the week of April 27th, 2010.
