Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for April 8th through April 13th, 2015

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.

Some of the upcoming events include: Port Royal History Walk, Dunbar Cave History, Friends of Dunbar Cave Meeting, Bird Hike, Volunteer Day/Mulching Day and The Secret World of Bats.

Wednesday, April 8th

Port Royal History Walk

Time: 9:00am – 10:00am
Ages: 8 – adult

Join us for a walk around Port Royal Historic Area. Meet at the upper parking lot (beside the Visitor Center).

Reservations by: 4:30pm, April 6th.

Bird Hike at Port Royal

Time: 10:00am – 11:30am
Ages: 7 – Adult

Bring binoculars and learn the birds that call this area home. Meet at the upper parking lot (beside Visitor Center).

Thursday, April 9th

Dunbar Cave History

Time: 3:00pm – 4:30pm
Ages: 12 to adult

Join us for a walk around the area and learn about Dunbar’s past.

Friends of Dunbar Cave Meeting

Time: 6:00pm
At: Park Visitor Center

David Britton, Tennessee State Park Ranger, will speak about Port Royal Historic Area.

Friday, April 10th

Bird Hike

Time: 6:30pm – 7:30pm
Ages: 5-adult

Cardinals, Blue Jays, Phoebes and more! Bring your binoculars and learn the birds that call the Natural Area home.

Saturday, April 11th

Volunteer Day/Mulching Day

Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm
Ages: All ages

Join the Friends of Dunbar Cave to help spread mulch on the dam. Bring work gloves, garden rakes, pitchforks and wheelbarrows if you have them.


Wildflower Hike

Time: 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Ages: 10-adult

Beautiful wildflowers await you on this 1.0 mile hike into the woods.

Sunday, April 12th

The Secret World of Bats

Time: 6:30pm – 7:15pm
Ages: 11-adult

We can’t go in the cave to see our bats, but you can learn about these wonderful creatures through this award-winning documentary.

Monday, April 13th

Wildflower Hike

Time: 9:00am – 10:30am
Ages: Adults

Beautiful wildflowers await you on this 1.0 mile hike into the woods.

Dunbar Cave State Park Programs Information

Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the Deadline Listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline will be canceled.

All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.

Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children).

Age limits are definite – please do not sign up a child who is younger or older than the age limits given.

Dunbar Cave State Park is located at 401 Old Dunbar Cave Road, Clarksville Tennessee.

Port Royal State Historic Park is located at 3300 Old Clarksville Springfield Road, Adams, Tennessee.
