Austin Peay State University Athlete of the Week Logan Gray

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Sophomore infielder Logan Gray, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Gray homered four times last week, including three in back-to-back-to-back innings during Sunday’s Ohio Valley Conference series finale at Southeast Missouri, leading the Govs to a 2-2 record on the week. Overall, he hit .316 (6-for-19) with five runs scored and 11 RBI.

The Leawood, Kansas, native started his week with a 2-for-5 midweek outing at Middle Tennessee before homering again in the series opener against the Redhawks. He capped the weekend with Austin Peay’s first 3-home run, 7-RBI outing since 2006.

With just over 100 at-bats to his credit in 2015, Gray is tied with Garrett Copeland for the top batting average among Govs (.340) and leads the team with eight home runs (tied for second in the OVC), 11 doubles and 23 RBI.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Senior Aleksas Tverijonas, of the men’s tennis team, defeated Belmont’s Mauricio Antun, the reigning OVC Player of the Year, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, to help the Govs remain unbeaten in OVC play in 2015.
  • Freshman Anna Michelle Moore, of the women’s golf team, fired a team-best 78 in a rain-shortened stint at the Colonel Classic, tying for 20th overall and posting the second-most pars (13) by anyone in the field.
  • Junior pitcher Natalie Ayala, of the softball team, scattered seven hits and struck out four in a complete-game win against Morehead State, Saturday.
  • Senior Ornella Di Salvo, of the women’s tennis team, picked up wins at No. 1 singles over the weekend, against Belmont’s Lindsey Whitehead (6-2, 6-2) and Tennessee State’s Attallah Eiland (6-0, 6-0), the latter leading the Lady Govs to their season’s first OVC victory.
