APSU Governors Baseball plays Memphis, Southern Illinois at home

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team will close out its six-game homestand with a pair of midweek contests. The Govs will host Memphis in a 6:00pm, Tuesday contest before Southern Illinois visits for a 3:00pm, Wednesday contest at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Austin Peay (19-13) has posted a 3-1 record in the first four games of the homestand, including a 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference series victory against Belmont last weekend.

Second baseman Garrett Copeland has had a huge impact in the homestand, posting the game-winning hit in each of the three wins, and was named the adidas® OVC Player of the Week.

Memphis (22-10) will close out a four-game road trip with Tuesday’s contest. The Tigers lost a three-game American Athletic Conference series at Cincinnati, 2-1, last weekend. First baseman Tucker Tubbs was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week and the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week after hitting a home run in each of Memphis’ five games last week.

On the mound, both the Govs and Tigers will turn to southpaws. Austin Peay will hand the ball to freshman Michael Costanzo, who will make his first start. Memphis will turn to midweek specialist senior Alex Gunn (3-0, 1.80 ERA), who allowed one run in seven innings to pick up a victory against Mississippi State, Wednesday.

Southern Illinois (7-28) visits Clarksville after picking up a 2-1 Missouri Valley Conference series victory at Indiana State. The Salukis won back-to-back games to start the series against the Sycamores, their first consecutive wins in 2015. Outfielder Parker Osborne led the Salukis at the plate with a 6-for-11, four RBI performance in the series.
