Brentwood, TN – Sophomore jumper Kaylnn Pitts, of the Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team, has been named adidas® / Ohio Valley Conference Co-Female Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Pitts shared the honor with Tennessee State’s Amber Hughes after both hit 12.54m (41′ 1.75″) in the triple jump last week.For Pitts, her mark came at the Hilltopper Relays, where she picked up her third straight triple jump victory to start the outdoor season. She also placed fourth in the long jump with a personal-best 5.87m (19′ 3.75″) leap.
The Woonsocket, RI native is tied with Hughes atop the conference in the triple jump, and her long jump mark now ranks second in the OVC. Pitts ranks among the regional and national elites; she’s currently 18th in the NCAA’s East Region in the triple jump and 47th in the long jump, and she’s 31st and 81st, respectively in the national rankings those events.
This is Pitts’ second weekly honor for the 2015 outdoor season after earning the honor for the week of April 1st. Austin Peay now has been represented with a weekly conference track and field honor seven times in 11 weeks such recognition has been bestowed in 2015.
