Nashville Sounds late rally comes up short in 3-2 loss to Oklahoma City Dodgers

Billy Burns Continues Hot Start in Sounds Loss

Nashville SoundsOklahoma City, OK – For the third consecutive night, only one run separated the Nashville Sounds and Oklahoma City Dodgers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. It was the Dodgers (6-2) who had the upper-hand on this night as they won 3-2.

After Kyle Jensen tacked on a seemingly innocuous solo home run to give the home team a 3-0 lead heading to the ninth, it appeared the Sounds were out for the count.

The Sounds had just five hits on the night at that point, four of which belonged to Billy Burns (2) and Tyler Ladendorf (2).  Starter Zach Lee (2-0) pitched six innings striking out seven.

Together he and reliever Ryan Buchter stretched the Dodgers scoreless pitching streak to season-high sixteen innings. Then, suddenly, it all changed.

Burns (3-for-5) led off with a single off of Sergio Santos to start the ninth. For Burns it is his third straight multi-hit game, he is hitting .424 this season.

Joey Wendle (1-for-4) moved Burns to third with a single of his own. Max Muncy (2-for-4) then hit a double to plate them both. In just three batters, the Sounds had put the tying runner in scoring position with no outs.

Muncy moved to third on a fielder’s choice, but was ultimately stranded there when Jason Pridie struck out and David Aardsma came out of the pen to retire Andy Parrino on a fly-out to left.

Not to be outdone, the Sounds starting pitching tandem of Ryan Verdugo and Angel Castro put together one of the better starts of the road trip. Verdugo (1-1) went 3.1 innings yielding just one run before giving way to Castro who finished the game (4.2 IP, 4 H 2 ER, 4 K).

The game marked the end of an eight-game road trip for the Sounds (4-4) who return home to Nashville for what figures to be a magical homestand.

Baseball will come home Friday night when the Sounds host the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (2-4) at the brand-new First Tennessee Park. First pitch for the home opener is scheduled for 7:05pm. Arnold Leon vs. Nick Additon is the expected pitching matchup.
