Nashville Sounds come up short in 4-3 loss to New Orleans Zephyrs

 

Nashville Outhit New Orleans 9-4 in Defeat

Nashville SoundsMetairie, LA – The Nashville Sounds lost the second game of a four-game set on Sunday to the New Orleans Zephyrs at Zephyr Field, 4-3.

In addition to drawing seven walks, the Sounds outhit the Zephyrs 9-4. Nashville matched a season-high 13 men left on base and are now atop the league with 153 on the season.

The pitching tandem of Ryan Verdugo and Angel Castro was effective once again, giving up just the four hits in the game.

Nashville Sounds Baseball

Verdugo (1-2) suffered his second loss of the season and was charged with all four runs, just two of which were earned. Castro was marvelous throwing four scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and striking out five.

The Zephyrs got an early 2-0 lead in the second, capitalizing on newly-signed infielder Ryan Roberts’ fielding error. The second inning has been a difficult one for the Sounds who now have been outscored 15-3 in the frame this season. The Zephyrs added two more runs on Derek Dietrich’s 4th inning homerun. The blast was his 4th of the season.

Jason Pridie (2-for-5) extended his hitting streak to seven games with a double in the first. He then drove in Billy Burns (2-for4) who scored his team-leading 16th run.  Niuman Romero (1-for-3) drove in the last two runs for the Sounds, drawing a bases loaded walk in the fifth and driving in Roberts (2-for-5) with a RBI single in the 7th.

The Sounds and Zephyrs play again tomorrow at 6:00pm at Zephyr Field. Fresh off a stint with Oakland, Arnold Leon gets the ball for the Sounds. He will be opposed by Adam Conley.
