Nashville Sounds struggle to score in 7-2 loss to Round Rock Express

Right-Hander Kendall Graveman Goes Five Innings, Fans Five In Season Debut

Nashville SoundsRound Rock, TX – The Sounds had plenty of base runners on Friday night but struggled to cash in during a 7-2 defeat at the hands of the Express at the Dell Diamond.

The team’s woes with runners in scoring position continued for Nashville who finished 1-for-7. The club had nine hits and left nine runners stranded on base to go along with it. The Sounds fell to three games below the .500 mark with a 9-12 record.

Nashville went on the attack right off the bat though, scoring a run in both the first and second innings. Joey Wendle and Kent Matthes hit back-to-back singles in the first and Jason Pridie drove the Sounds’ second baseman in with a double.

Then in the second, Andy Parrino hit his third home run of the season, a solo shot over that he deposited over the left field wall. Nashville had the 2-1 lead after two, but the advantage was short lived.

Round Rock took control with three runs in the fourth inning that was capped by a Jared Hoying home run. Those three runs were scored off Sounds’ starter Kendall Graveman, who allowed five runs in total (three earned). The right-hander managed 5.0 innings with five strikeouts, but suffered the loss in his season debut.

Matthes, Pridie and Bryan Anderson all posted multi-hit affairs in the loss, while Round Rock added a pair of runs off reliever Seth Frankoff who was called up from Double-A Midland earlier in the day.

Nashville and Round Rock are set for a 7:05pm contest on Saturday night at the Dell Diamond. Left-hander Brad Mills (0-3, 6.75) will pitch against Anthony Ranaudo.
