Anthony Aliotti Extends On-Base Streak To 17 Games
Nashville, TN – The Sounds were shutout for the second time this season and dropped their sixth straight game as Iowa notched a 4-0 win at First Tennessee Park on Tuesday night.
Nashville has now been outscored 31-16 during their six-game losing streak. Iowa improved to 12-13 with the win as the Sounds fell to seven games below the .500 mark.
The starting pitchers were on top of things early for both clubs. Barry Zito (5.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 5 K) was seeking his first win of the season and was able to dodge several bullets early on.
The Sounds threatened in several innings early on. Jason Pridie led off the second with a double, but was left out there to end the inning. Then in the third, Anthony Aliotti walked and Joey Wendle singled two batters later, but both were left stranded at the end of the frame.
All three players extended respective streaks as Pridie (six games) and Wendle (seven games) pushed their hitting streaks forward, while Aliotti nudged his on-base streak to 17 games.
The visitors put up the first run of the contest in the fourth when Adron Chambers beat out an infield single with the bases loaded. They tacked on another in the fifth and a pair of tallies in the sixth to snatch a 4-0 victory in the second game of the series.
The home team had two rehab appearances during the loss. Infielder Nate Freiman, who was activated yesterday and recorded the team’s lone RBI in the 2-1 defeat, went 1-for-4 with a single and a strikeout. Pitcher Sean Nolin made his first outing by coming out of the bullpen with a scoreless seventh frame. The left-hander walked one and struck out two.
The third game of series begins at 7:05pm tomorrow at First Tennessee Park. The battle of the right-handers will feature Kendall Graveman (0-1, 5.40) against Dallas Beeler.
