Nashville, TN – The winning entries for the 2015-16 Tennessee Wildlife magazine photo contest have been selected by staff members of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The selections will be unveiled in the annual calendar issue of the magazine which will be available in early July.
The staff selected the winning photographs from hundreds of submissions and had the challenge to narrow the entries to 13 photos that will appear in the calendar issue. The 2015-16 calendar issue will begin with the month of August. Other entries will be kept on file and could have the opportunity to appear in future agency publications.

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee State School Bond Authority (TSSBA) has closed a bond deal that will save the state $12.9 while also helping to finance construction projects at Tennessee colleges and universities.

Josh Hamilton Goes 1-for-3 in First Rehab Appearance
Nashville, TN – Barry Zito and the Nashville Sounds spoiled Josh Hamilton’s return to baseball with a 7-0 victory over the Round Rock Express on Mother’s Day at First Tennessee Park.
The game marked the first time a former Cy Young Winner and a former MVP played against one another in a Nashville Sounds game. While Hamilton (1-for-3) was the story coming into the action, it was Zito who stole the show.
The Sounds’ southpaw earned his first win of the season, pitching seven scoreless innings, surrendering just four hits and striking out five. Sounds pitching has been outstanding as of late, throwing five quality starts in their last seven games, posting a 2.47 ERA over that stretch.

Strong economy and low gas prices drive 4.7 percent increase in holiday travel over 2014
Tampa, FL – AAA projects 37.2 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more away from home during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The total travel volume is a 4.7 percent increase from the 35.5 million people who traveled last year and the highest travel volume for the holiday in 10 years.
Kicking off the summer driving season, 33 million travelers will pack up the family vehicle and drive to their destinations. The Memorial Day holiday travel period is defined as Thursday, May 21st to Monday, May 25th.
Clarksville, TN – The April employment report was in line with expectations. Details suggested: 1) a rebound from March weather effects; 2) some moderation in the underlying pace of job growth (relative to the very brisk pace of 4Q14); and 3) a very gradual pace of reduction in labor market slack.
Nonfarm payrolls rose by 223,000, while the weather-restrained March increase was revised down to +85,000 (from +126,000) – leaving an average monthly gain of 154,000 for March and April. The unemployment rate was essentially unchanged at 5.4%. Average hourly earnings rose 0.1%, up 2.2% year-over-year (still lackluster).

The $400.00 professional privilege tax is an annual tax imposed on certain professionals who hold an active Tennessee license or registration on the June 1st due date, regardless of whether the person practices his or her profession in Tennessee.
