Nashville Sounds rip eleven hits on way to 7-0 win over Round Rock Express

Josh Hamilton Goes 1-for-3 in First Rehab Appearance

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Barry Zito and the Nashville Sounds spoiled Josh Hamilton’s return to baseball with a 7-0 victory over the Round Rock Express on Mother’s Day at First Tennessee Park.

The game marked the first time a former Cy Young Winner and a former MVP played against one another in a Nashville Sounds game. While Hamilton (1-for-3) was the story coming into the action, it was Zito who stole the show.

The Sounds’ southpaw earned his first win of the season, pitching seven scoreless innings, surrendering just four hits and striking out five. Sounds pitching has been outstanding as of late, throwing five quality starts in their last seven games, posting a  2.47 ERA over that stretch.

The Sounds offense took advantage of a strong breeze blowing out to left field in the second inning, hitting two solo homers in the frame. Kent Matthes led off with his second home run of the season and two batters later, Andy Parrino went opposite field for his fourth homer of the season.

The Sounds were not done in the inning, however. Out of the number nine-hole, catcher Luke Carlin doubled with two outs and center fielder Craig Gentry drove him in with a single up the middle to give the home team an early 3-0 lead.

Jason Pridie went against that strong wind in fourth, crushing a solo home run to right-center field making the score 4-0. The blast tied him with Joey Wendle and Parrino for the team-lead.

Nashville plated three more in the fifth, with Kent Matthes driving in his second and third runs of the game with a double down the left field line. Parrino would drive Matthes in, picking up his 10th RBI on the year.

Seth Frankoff finished the job for Zito, pitching two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Josh Hamilton and the Express will play the final game of their four-game set tomorrow at First Tennessee Park. The Sounds will send Kendall Graveman (1-1, 2.25) to the mound. The former Mississippi State Bulldog turned in seven scoreless inning in his last outing vs. Iowa. He will be opposed by right-hander Phil Klein (1-0, 2.31). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
