Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for May 31st, 2015

Clarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Liberty Live Concert, Civil War Summer Camp, Fundamental Basketball Day Camps, and Daddy-Daughter Date Night.

Liberty Live Concert Series

The City of Clarksville and Convergys are proud to announce the second concert in the Liberty Live series is set for this Friday, June 5th at Liberty Park.

The event will feature American Idol participant, Emily Minor, as the headlining performer. Admission is free but concessions will be available for purchase.

The show is set to begin at 6:30pm.

Fort Defiance Interpretive Center

Civil War Summer Camp
The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center is proud to host the City’s Civil War Summer Camp for history savvy youth. The Camp will be two, one-week sessions for boys and girls in the 5th and 6th grades this June.

The Civil War Summer Camp, instructed by Karel Biggs, will focus on the American Civil War. Students will learn more about the people, events, vocabulary, songs, food, drills, clothing and flags associated with the War.

The first session will be held Monday, June 1st through Friday, June 5th, and the second from Monday, June 8th through Friday, June 12th. Each session will take place from 8:00am to noon at the Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street.

The cost of the camp is $60.00 per student. Pre-registration is required and available through May 30th at Fort Defiance, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main Office or online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com. Sessions are limited to 12 participants, so sign up today!

*NEW* Fundamental Basketball Day Camps

Burt-Cobb Community Center is excited to offer youth, ages 6-12, the opportunity to learn basic dribbling, ball handling, and shooting techniques from Coach Tracie Mason-Blair during their Fundamental Basketball Day Camps. Camps will be held Friday, June 5th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm for youth ages 6-8 and on Friday, June 12th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm for youth ages 9-12.

An organized game will follow both day camps. There is no cost to participate, but a Community Center ID card is required. ID cards can be purchased for $5.00 and are good for one calendar year at all three Community Centers.

Daddy-Daughter Date Night

The time is now to purchase your tickets for the 2nd Annual Daddy-Daughter Date Night! The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is offering a memorable evening for dad and daughter couples on Thursday, June 25th at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center, 1190 Cumberland Drive, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm.

Daddy-Daughter Date Night is the perfect place for fathers, uncles, grandfathers, and positive male role-models of all kinds to enjoy an evening with their special girl. Games, food, and giveaways will make this a night they won’t forget. Event is open to girls 5-17 years-old and accompanying adult. This year’s theme is “Sail Away”.
