Planters Bank Art Gallery to feature Terri Jordan’s ‘Symbolic Summer’ in June

Clarksville, TN – The Planters Bank-Hilldale Gallery will feature “Symbolic Summer” by Clarksville Artist Terri Jordan from Thursday, June 4th – Wednesday, July 1st.

A 20-year arts veteran, Jordan is the exhibits curator of the Clarksville’s own Customs House Museum, as well as a fine artist working in oils and acrylics. She has been involved with nonprofit arts organizations and has taught classes for Centerstone.

“My work can be classified as narrative figurative portraiture,” says Jordan. “While I don’t like to tell the viewer what to take in from my paintings, subtle symbols are used with every canvas story. Currently, my work plays back to how flowers and plants were used, particularly in the Victorian age, in giving subtle references to status, emotions, and discrete communications. I am intrigued by the meanings and similar superstitions around plants through time and cultures. Today, we like to surround ourselves with beautiful flowers and greenery without considering that several are toxic and in some cases, deadly to people and pets.”

Jordan’s figurative style is easily recognizable. The Agora Gallery in New York City has said, “Terri’s paintings contain the best qualities of both figurative and still life painting. Much like Matisse’s women, Jordan’s figures are symbolic statements of serenity, beauty, and ornament. More restful than Matisse’s women, however, Jordan explores a more understated realm of existence and privacy.” Her narrative figurative paintings have been exhibited in group and solo shows throughout the country.

In 2012, Terri was one of 25 women artists selected to participate in the National juried exhibit, titled “Where Do We Go from Here? The Shape of Things to Come,” at the RCC Wiseman Gallery in Grants Pass, Oregon. She has won numerous awards for her paintings and is in collections from New York to California, Italy, and England.

The Planters-Hilldale branch is located at 1971 Madison Street and is the 2015 Ovation Award winner in the business category for support of the arts from the APSU Center of Excellence in Creative Arts. The exhibit rotates the First Thursday of each month and is open to the public during regular bank hours: 8:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Thursday, and 8:30am-5:30pm, Friday.

Upcoming exhibitors include Bob Privett (acrylics) on July 2nd, Patsy Sharpe (watercolor) on August 6th, and Amber Wallace (mixed media) on September 3rd.
