Clarksville, TN – Highlighted by three All-Star recognitions and a Home Run Derby participant, 19 members of Austin Peay State University’s baseball team have furthered their development in Collegiate Summer Baseball Leagues.
Garrett Copeland and Ridge Smith, teammates for the Vermont Mountaineers in the New England League, have been selected to compete in the 2015 NECBL All-Star Game on July 19th.
Copeland has continued to swing a hot bat since the 2015 regular season concluded, as evidenced by his .310 average, 10 RBI, and 21 runs scored.
Meanwhile, Smith will be a reserve catcher in the game after batting .264 with 11 RBI, tying for the team-high.
Out west, California’s own Patrick Massoni was nominated for the California Collegiate League All-Star Game after a solid first half with Neptune Beach Pearl. The outfielder holds a .289 average with eight doubles, and also leads the team in runs scored with 25.

Chase Hamilton has been involved in All-Star festivities after being selected to compete in the MINK League Home Run Derby. The sophomore totaled 11 homers – seven coming in the second round – to finish runner-up in the competition. On the season, Hamilton is batting .231 with 13 RBI and 12 runs scored. His teammate with the Clarinda A’s, Shane Lantigua, is 1-1 on the mound with a 4.97 ERA. Another member of the MINK League, Wesley Purcell has been suiting up for the Branson (Missouri) Nationals. In eight games, the outfielder is batting .240 with four RBI and a pair of runs. A couple lefty hurlers alongside Massoni at Neptune are Michael Costanzo and Zach Neff. Costanzo is 3-1 with 29 strikeouts and a save in 11 games, while Neff holds a 1-0 record in 10 games with an ERA of 4.82. Two additional lefties have settled in on the coast, with Levi Primasing and John Sparks pitching lights-out for the San Luis Obispo Blues in the California Collegiate League. Primasing has an ERA of 2.94 in 16 innings on the bump, whereas Sparks has gone 3-0 with a 1.82 ERA and 26 strikeouts. Alex Robles, a member of the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod League, has run into misfortune on the mound with a 0-4 record and 5.16 ERA. However, the right-hander holds an 18:4 strikeout to walk ratio.
In addition, Jared Carkuff has earned a spot with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League. Since being activated, July 5, the right-hander has gone 1-0 in five relief appearances with a 3.60 ERA.

Three players have been playing in the Valley League with the Waynesboro (Virginia) Generals – Jordan Harmon, T.J. Marik, and Imani Willis. On the mound, Harmon is 3-1 on the year in relief duty. Two of Marik’s five hits have gone for extra bases – a home run and double – and he has scored four runs. Willis is hitting .217 with 14 RBI and 16 runs scored.
In the Northwoods League, Cayce Bredlau and Dre Gleason have been swinging the sticks for the Battle Creek Bombers. Bredlau is batting .268 at the midseason point with a team-high five triples, two homers, 19 RBI, and 22 runs. Gleason has 21 hits thus far, three leading to doubles, with 10 RBI and eight runs.

Checking in on the Prospect League, outfielders Josh Wilson and Kyle Blackburn are playing for the Terre Haute Rex. Wilson is batting .248 with 16 RBI and 10 runs scored, while Blackburn has seven RBI and eight runs.
