Brent Morel Posts Season-High Three Hits
Des Moines, IA – Zach Neal notched a quality start, but it was not enough as Nashville fell 3-1 to Iowa at Principal Park on Wednesday Night.
Neal no-hit the I-Cubs for the first three innings before Matt Szczur led off the fourth with a double. Next batter Javier Baez tripled, scoring Szczur and giving the home team the first run of the game. Christian Villanueva then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Baez and the Cubs led 2-0.
The Sounds were not far behind in getting their first run. The first two batters of the fifth inning, Andy Parrino and Brent Morel, recorded hits and the third batter, Bryan Anderson, followed suit scoring Parrino. The Sounds may have got much more, but Arismendy Alcantara and Baez turned an impressive double play on the speedy Joey Wendle to get out of the frame, limiting the damage.
Alcantara contributed on the offensive end as well, taking Neal deep for a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh. Neal was solid for Nashville, earning his ninth quality start as he scattered just four hits and three runs over seven innings.
Nashville threatened in the seventh, but left the bases loaded and never got closer, falling 3-1. With the loss, Neal fell to (7-7), while Iowa starter Dallas Beeler improved to (5-5) and Brian Schlitter recorded his 18th save.
Nashville and Iowa will play the third game of their four-game set tomorrow night at Principal Park. Cody Martin (1-3, 5.66) is expected to get the ball for Nashville and Eric Jokisch (3-3, 4.40) will pitch for Iowa. First pitch is set for 7:08pm.
