APSU Governors Tennis releases 2015-16 schedule

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team announced its 2015-2016 schedule, Friday, a slate that includes nine home matches.

The Govs finished last season with an overall 14-8 record, including a 7-2 Ohio Valley Conference record.

This season the Govs will need younger squad members to step up as a result of the loss of seniors Dimitar Ristovski, Iago Seffrin and Aleksas Tverijonas.

Seffrin and Ristovski teamed up at No. 1 doubles in the 2015 season. Ristovski also received APSU’s Most Outstanding Athlete award, while his teammate Aleksas Tverijonas received the APSU Male Legends award.

Austin Peay will compete in four road tournaments in the fall, starting with the Dale Short Invitational in Murfreesboro, TN (September 25th-26th). The Govs will then journey to Tulsa, OK, for the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships (October 3rd-12th). Following that they will round out the fall season with the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in Knoxville, TN (October 15th-19th), and the Louisville Invitational (October 30th – November 1st).

The Govs look to build fall momentum before opening 2016 with their first home match against Xavier, January 22nd. Other notable teams that APSU will face in non-conference include: Kennesaw State (January 24th), Chattanooga (January 30th), Lipscomb (February 12th), Southern Indiana (February 13th), Southern Illinois (February 26th), Wright State (February 27th), and Lindsey Wilson (March 3rd).

In the OVC slate, the Govs will open with two away matches against Eastern Kentucky (March 18th) and Morehead State (March 19th). They then will return home for back-to-back matches against SIU Edwardsville (March 25th) and Eastern Illinois (March 26th).

The Govs then hit the road once more to face Southeast Missouri (April 1st) and UT Martin (April 2nd). Following that they will return for the final two home contests against Murray State (April 5th) and Tennessee State (April 8th). The season’s final OVC matches will be on the road against Belmont (April 9th) and Jacksonville State (April 16th).

The Men’s Tennis Championship will be held April 22nd-24th at a site that is to be determined.
