Tennessee Gun Country’s Shoot for a Cause Benefits LEAP Youth

LEAP OrganizationClarksville, TN – Tennessee Gun Country hosted Shoot for a Cause, a charity event for gun owners, and non-owners alike, to learn about firearms and practice on the range. The event was open to the community and held on the gun range with July 25th designated for 100% of the proceeds to be donated to the LEAP Organization.

The donation will enable LEAP to educate their youth participants in gun safety and violence prevention.

Executive Director Richard “Reason” Garrett had concerns regarding the community support for this type of event. “Initially I was concerned about how the community would respond to this kind of event given the recent unfortunate gun related tragedies.

However, that concern was unfounded demonstrated by the overwhelming support from Clarksville residents who recognize the need for educational preventive programs to reduce the number of gun related violent crimes amongst teens,” commented Garrett.

Tennessee Gun County owner, David Bata had this to say about the event. “My philosophy on firearms and kids is, if you educate a child about guns at an early age they are less likely to have a gun related accident. Curiosity and ignorance is what gets kids killed. If you make firearms taboo then their curiosity is what gets them in trouble. If you educate them and let them handle firearms under an adult’s supervision then they are less likely to want to sneak into the parent’s room or open the safe and get the firearms out and play with them.”

Although the exact number of participants is unknown, the event raised close to $1,000 to benefit the program. Teens enrolled in LEAP, along with their parents, will participate in a customized gun safety and violence prevention course led by one of Tennessee Gun Country’s certified instructors.
