Nashville Sounds come up short at Tacoma Rainers, 6-5

Nashville Sounds Outfielder Jason Pridie Belts Two Home Runs To Join The 20-20 Club

Nashville SoundsTacoma, WA – Jason Pridie smashed his way into the history books by pounding a pair of home runs in a 6-5 loss to Tacoma in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium.

The two-homer game was the second this season for Pridie and bumped his long ball total to 20, a new career high. He became the first Sound since J.J. Davis (2003) to hit 20 home runs and steal 20 bases in a season.  Pridie also established a new career high (88) by tying a season-high four RBIs in the contest.

As they have done all season long, the Sounds scored first by jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Joey Wendle hit a one-out double in the first, his 39th of the season, and scored two batters later when Pridie smashed his 19th home run.

The two-run bomb cleared the left center field wall and marked the 16th time the outfielder had hit a home run on the road.

Unfortunately for Nashville, the advantage did not last long. Tacoma got a RBI double from Patrick Kivlehan in the second and proceeded to plate three more in the third. They eventually scored a fifth run off Sounds starter Zach Neal, who pitched into the seventh inning.

The right-hander had run into some bad luck in his past few starts but snapped his streak of six consecutive losses by taking a no-decision. Neal lasted 6 2/3 innings, surrendering five runs (four earned) on 11 hits and two walks.

Pridie banged his second home run of the game in the sixth, another two-run shot off Adrian Sampson. This time Andy Parrino scored and helped cut the deficit to one with an inning to play.

Nashville squared things up at 5-5 in its final opportunity at the plate. Bryan Anderson worked a leadoff walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. After the catcher scooted to third on a groundout, Wendle lined a sharp single past a drawn-in infield and drove Anderson home.

The Rainiers scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning off reliever Ryan Dull though. The right-hander had not allowed a run in his last 14 innings before serving up a base hit to James Jones that plated Patrick Brady from second. Nashville dropped to 5-8 in extra-inning games this season.

The second game of the day-night doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 7:35pm CST at Cheney Stadium. The Sounds will call upon 19-year-old right-hander Jesus Zambrano to make his Triple-A debut, while the Rainiers have Chien Ming Wang (3-4, 5.50) slated to oppose the youngster in the nightcap.
