Nashville Sounds lose 10-5 to Round Rock Express

Nashville Sounds Welcome 15 Millionth Fan In Franchise History

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Sounds ran into a loaded offensive assault on Tuesday night at First Tennessee Park and lost 10-5 to the Round Rock Express.

Nashville continued its historic season attendance-wise and welcomed the 15 millionth fan in franchise history. Out of the 6,891 people to enter First Tennessee Park on Tuesday night, Stacy Avery walked inside with his wife and daughter as the lucky guest. Avery was recognized on the field during the game and awarded a prize package that included a trip to see the Oakland Athletics in spring training before the start of next season.

The victory for Round Rock clinched the American Southern division crown, its first division title since 2011. The 75 wins are most from an Express team since that 2011 season.

The Express bolted out to an early lead courtesy of a four-run first inning off Jake Sanchez. Eight batters were sent to the plate and Ryan Rua put an exclamation on the damage with a two-run single.

Nashville sparked a quick rally in the home half of the first inning though, knocking the lead down by two runs. Joey Wendle and Brent Morel collected singles with one away and both moved up a base on a wild pitch. Rangel Ravelo, who was hitting cleanup for the first time this season in the Sounds lineup, brought Wendle home with a single. Max Muncy concluded the scoring with a sacrifice fly and the score moved to 4-2 after one inning.

Round Rock had its eyes on the prize though and plated another three runs over the next two innings. Brett Nicholas drove in a pair with a single in the second and a double play scored Jared Hoying in the third. The visitors claimed a 7-2 advantage after three and never flinched the rest of the way.

Sanchez was promoted from Double-A Midland earlier on Tuesday and was making his Triple-A debut in the contest. He managed three innings of work, allowing seven runs on seven hits and three walks. The right-hander struck out Ed Lucas looking in the first inning, one of three strikeouts during his debut.

Two other Sounds pitchers made debuts in the loss, as Tanner Peters got his first taste in Nashville and Trevor Bayless made his Triple-A debut. Peters fanned three over two innings and Bayless notched two scoreless frames. Both relievers were promoted earlier on Tuesday.

Nate Freiman smashed a two-run homer in the ninth, his third of the season, but the comeback attempt fell short. Bryan Anderson collected the only multi-hit game for the Sounds, clubbing his 15th double of the season in the process. Craig Gentry’s single in the fifth extended his hitting streak to 11 games and Ravelo’s RBI in the first was his 18th in 23 games at the Triple-A level.

The Sounds and Express are back at it again on Wednesday evening at First Tennessee Park. Right-hander Nathan Long (3-5, 5.75) is Nashville’s scheduled pitcher while Round Rock has yet to name a starter. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
