Nashville Sounds roll over Omaha Storm Chasers, 10-5

Ryan Roberts Hits Seventh Home Run Of Season Off Omaha

Nashville SoundsPapillion, NB – The Sounds used home runs from Ryan Roberts and Brent Morel to power past the Storm Chasers on Saturday afternoon at Werner Park with a 10-5 win.

The first three innings of the contest breezed by in Nebraska before Roberts rained power from above. The left fielder took the 0-1 pitch from J.C. Sulbaran and booted it over the wall in left. Joey Wendle and Morel both scored on the three-run shot, marking the seventh home run Roberts has hit off Omaha this season.

It did not take long before Morel got in on the home run fun too. The infielder walked to the plate with two outs and then proceeded to trot around the base paths by taking Sulbaran’s 2-1 delivery way out over the left field fence.

Morel’s second home run of the season came in three-run fashion, bolstering Nashville’s lead to 6-2 after five innings.

The Storm Chasers got their two early runs off starter Jesus Zambrano. The right-hander filled in for Sean Nolin, who was recalled by the Oakland A’s on Friday. In his second start at the Triple-A level, Zambrano tied a season high by throwing five innings. He never walked a batter and allowed two runs on five hits. The effort earned the 19-year-old his first win of the season.

Trevor Bayless continued his strong impression, managing two more scoreless innings with a strikeout and a hit. The reliever has posted 5 1/3 shutout innings over three appearances with the Sounds since being promoted from High-A Stockton.

Nate Freiman added an insurance run in the eighth, plating Morel with a single. Wendle also extended his hitting streak to nine games in the win, but is still searching for his 42nd double of the season. The infielder’s next two-bagger will set a single-season franchise record.

Morel finished the game by going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and five RBIs. His ninth inning double drove in Wendle and Craig Gentry and gave the Sounds the 9-5 lead. They would add another and take a five-run victory.

With the series even at one game apiece, the Sounds will give the ball to Jake Sanchez (0-1, 27.00) in the 7:05pm game at Werner Park. Omaha is scheduled to counter with Casey Coleman (5-3, 4.60).
