Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office K-9 wins award

 

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSOClarksville, TN – Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is proud to announce Deputy Chris Bedell and his K-9 dog Merlin took 2nd place Novice Dog in the United States Police Canine Association Dog Trials Competition.

The annual event was held in Nashville, TN. A total of 28 canine dogs, 11 in the novice division, from various law enforcement agencies competed. The three day event consisted of six phases.

Dogs are tested in obedience, agility, evidence retrieval, handler protection, suspect search, and attack work.  The competition is also part of their annual certification process.

Deputy Bedell has been in law enforcement for 12 years, five years with the MCSO. Bedell wants to thank Sergeant Oliver and the MCSO staff, along with Dean Hunter with Canine Command for the opportunity to work with and train Merlin. “I have a great dog and we make a great team,” said Bedell.

K-9 Merlin is a two year veteran of the MCSO. He started his career with Bedell in Drug Task Force before they were moved over to Patrol. When asked for comment, he simply replied “woof” and chased a ball. Of course only after Deputy Bedell gave him permission
