Freshman McKenzie Dixon won OVC Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week following a two-goal, two-assist weekend against Kennesaw State and Alabama State.

Friday, Dixon assisted on the game’s first goal, and later powered a free kick from outside the box past the keeper in the 87th minute.

Against the Hornets, Dixon scored her fifth goal in three games, and minutes later, distributed an assist to Mary Ruth Locastro in the box off a corner kick.

A Memphis native, Locastro claimed Defensive Player of the Week thanks in large part to scoring her first goal this season. The junior advanced forward from her center back position, and headed home the delivery from Dixon at the far post in the 67th minute.

Locastro also played a key role in helping Austin Peay claim two wins in three days by playing 152 minutes. After competing as a midfielder for much of her career, Locastro was moved to defender earlier in the month, and has helped solidify the Lady Govs back line. Since starting at the position at South Alabama, the Lady Govs have held all four opponents to two goals or less.

It’s the first time Austin Peay has doubled up on weekly awards since 2013, which were won by Gina Fabbro (Off.) and Shelby Olszewski (Def.). In addition, Dixon becomes the first player to win back-to-back awards since Tara Tidwell won consecutive Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2006.
