Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s and women’s cross country teams head east to Richmond, VA Saturday, to compete in the Cross Country Only National Invitational.

Both races will be held at Pole Green Park. The men’s five mile race will begin at 8:45am followed by the women’s 5K at 9:30am.

The men’s team is more than equipped with many formidable competitors. Leading the charge is Martin Rejman, who has been the top men’s performer in all four meets this year.

At the Greater Louisville Classic he posted a time of 25:45.25 in the men’s 8,000-meter run.

Earlier this season, he broke the school record for the men’s four mile at the Brooks Memphis Twilight and placed 21st out of 258 runners, many of whom were from top-level SEC schools such as Alabama and Mississippi State.

Rejman has not been the only threat this season, however. Wesley Gray has had an impressive freshman year so far. He has claimed the second team spot behind Rejman in every meet so far this year and has also posted consistent times during each outing as well. He managed to go from a four-minute mile time of 21:21.01 in the Memphis Brooks Twilight to a 21:05.00 in the APSU Invitational.

As for the women’s team, several runners have been jockeying for the top spot all season. Becca Wheeler, Molly Jordan, Unjala Lester and Jessica Gray have each had first-place finishes so far this year. With nearly every runner on the women’s team lowering their time in their 5K each meet, this week is shaping up to be no different.

Gray has recently commanded the Lady Govs in the 5K, leading the team in the Greater Louisville Classic with a time of 19:06.66. She has posted steady finishes in other meets this season as well and looks to make an impact for the remainder of the year.

Wheeler also has been a top contender on the women’s team, posting a 19:42.76 at the Memphis Brooks Twilight and 19:27.00 at the APSU Invitational,   finishing first and second at each of those meets, respectively.
