Austin Peay State University TRiO SSS program receives five-year, $1.3 million federal grant

 

Austin Peay State University - APSU - logoClarksville, TN – In 1998, Austin Peay State University initiated the TRiO Student Support Services program—a federally funded program designed to help those students who are first-generation college students, disabled or who come from low-income backgrounds.

APSU’s Student Support Services (SSS) has assisted thousands of students in the last 17 years, and the program will continue to serve even more thanks to the recent awarding of a five-year, $1.3 million U.S. Department of Education grant.

Legal Aid Society Welcomes Skadden Fellow, Launches Re-entry Advocacy Program

Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the CumberlandsNashville, TN – Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands announced today that it has added Skadden Fellow Vidhi Sanghavi Joshi as the leader of a new two-year project focusing on re-entry issues in Middle Tennessee and the Cumberland Plateau.

Vidhi Sanghavi Joshi will start a program to help individuals with criminal records combat the legal barriers they face upon re-entering the community from jail or prison.

Clarksville Police Department Assisted West Creek High School in The Freshman Challenge

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – During this week (October 19th, 2015-October 23rd, 2015), Officers from the Clarksville Police Department’s Traffic Unit have been assisting West Creek High School Academy of Criminal Justice and Homeland Security in an event called The Freshman Challenge.

The Freshman Challenge at WCHS: The WCHS students started the week by working a (simulated) vehicle incident.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University officially will introduce its 2015-16 basketball squads, 7:00pm, Tuesday, during Sneak Peayk in the Dunn Center.

The night, free and open to the public, will feature Governors basketball coach Dave Loos and new Lady Govs coach David Midlick introducing their respective squads. In addition, the two squads will stage 20-minute scrimmages as part of the “Peayk.”

Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale begins Thursday, October 29th

 

Book Sale Continues Through Halloween

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public LibraryClarksville, TN – The Friends of the Library Fall Book sale will open Thursday the 29th at 4:00pm with the Friends-only preview until 7:00 pm that evening. Anyone may join the Friends at the door for as little as $5.00.

Thousands of used books from fiction to a myriad of non-fiction subjects to children’s books will be available for purchase. All proceeds from the book sale go to support the public library. The sale continues for the general public on Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm and on Saturday (Halloween) from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – A formidable nonconference slate awaits Austin Peay State University’s baseball team under first-year head coach Travis Janssen as the team’s 2016 slate was released publicly, Friday.

Just 119 days separate Austin Peay from its regular-season opener, February 19th, against Bradley. The Braves, who will play a three-game set at Raymond C. Hand Park, posted a 35-18 record last season and reached the NCAA Tournament.

TWRA announces First Young Sportsman Deer Hunt set for October 31st thru November 1st

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The first of two Tennessee young sportsman deer hunts for the 2015-16 season will be held the weekend of October 31st-November 1st.

Youth ages 6-16 years of age may participate, Young sportsmen must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult, 21 or older who must remain in position to take immediate control of the hunting device.
