Clarksville Montgomery County School System High School Graduation Rate Soars to 96.5%

Dedicated faculty, staff and administration focus on student results

Tennessee State Representative - District 67Clarksville, TN – Ninty-six point five. 96.5. No matter how you spell it out, that is an impressive number. And it applies to the 2015 high school graduation rate of the Clarksville-Montgomery county School System. That is up three points from 2014, and almost eleven points since 2007.

In an age where every student matters, that equates to 1,969 students in Clarksville-Montgomery County leaving a system with a great opportunity to have a higher quality of life.

It should also be noted that behind those numbers lie a host of educators, staff and administration who pull together in the same harness to make that possible.

And they do so in spite of the myriad changes, some good and some less than, imposed by state and federal governments. And their toil should not go unnoticed.

Our community is proud of our local school system. In fact we should be proud of every school, public or private in our county. Behind the walls of the school buildings are some of the most dedicated, focused and driven people in our community. There are businesses in our area that would be envious of the single-mindedness of the faculty, administration and staff.

While we are learning a lot from exposing teachers to local business by way of summer externships, there are some businesses that could benefit from spending time with principals and teachers to learn how they do it.

The news only gets better for our school system. We were number one in growth in student growth last year. We have eleven, count ‘em eleven, schools on the state’s reward schools list. And we continue to attract the best and brightest teachers to our system from across the country. Success breeds success.

The temptation is to exhale and rest on our laurels but I know our school board, and the administration is looking beyond the accolades for the next hill to climb. We should also be cognizant of the need to keep up the support for our school system. Yes, money truly makes a difference in this enterprise.

But let’s pause for a moment and celebrate the success of seeing more students walk across the graduation stage. And as we do so well in our community, let’s celebrate our teachers. If you see a teacher out to lunch or dinner, tell them thank you for a job well done. And maybe pick up the tab for their meal. They answer the clarion call to inspire our children to learn. They deserve our thanks for the results.
