Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsMurray, KY – Austin Peay State University men’s and women’s cross country teams have been training hard for two weeks to prepare for Saturday’s Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships at Miller Memorial Golf Course.

The women will compete at 9:00am, followed by the men’s race at 10:00am.

The Govs and Lady Govs are determined to achieve greater success this year after each placed ninth in last year’s championship.

The men will face off against regionally-ranked teams Eastern Illinois (15th, Midwest), Belmont (12th, South) and Eastern Kentucky (5th, Southeast). The women’s squad also will face regionally-ranked opponents Belmont (11th, South) and Eastern Kentucky (4th, Southeast).

The women’s team shows great promise with Memphis native Jessica Gray, who not only has been one of the top performers for the Lady Govs in 2015 but also has shown consistent improvement throughout the season as well. Her times in the women’s 5K have dropped lower and lower with each meet and she placed first in the Greater Louisville Classic, October 17th.

Molly Jordan also is one of the athletes to watch out for this Saturday as she has competed with Gray intensely all season for the team’s top spot. With equally consistent personal best times and her own first-place finish in the Powerade Invitational. Jordan is one of the top contenders on the Lady Govs squad.

On the men’s side, Martin Rejman returns after suffering an illness at the Cross Country Only National Invitational. His season has been tremendous, beginning with a school record in the men’s four-mile run at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic. Rejman also has been the number one overall runner on the men’s team for all but one meet in 2015, and while he may not have posted consistent personal bests, he has been a great contributor to the team in every way.

The men’s team also is laden with young talent led by Wesley Gray. The freshman runner has placed runner-up to Rejman in all five meets this season and has had improvements in time in nearly every event he has participated in.
