Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Jartavius Dobbs, a 6-10, 205-pound forward/center from Columbus (Miss.) High School, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Austin Peay State University.

Dobbs, who transferred to Columbus after playing at Aberdeen High School his previous two seasons, opened his senior season with 25 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots, Tuesday night, against West Lowndes.

“Jartavius is a guy with the length we have been looking for,” APSU coach Dave Loos said. “At 6-9 and 6-10—I have seen him listed as both—he is a guy who goes and gets the basketball right now, both as a rebounder and shot blocker. He has great time as a shot blocker.

“Obviously he has great length. We believe he will develop his low-point game, although that may sound ridiculous after he got 25 (points) last night. We are excited about his signing. You search long and hard for guys his size.”

He was named as a Senior to Watch by The Clarion Ledger after being chosen to the Columbus Commercial Dispatch All-Area team a year ago along with all-district and District 3A Defensive Player of the Year after blocking 128 shots (4.0 bpg) and grabbing 220 rebounds (7.7 rpg) as a prep junior.

In the Class 3A state semifinal game last spring, Dobbs tipped in the go-ahead bucket while unofficially blocking 15 shots and grabbing 12 rebounds against Forest.

Dobbs is following in the footsteps of Josh Lewis (2000-03) and Chris Horton (2012-), who came to APSU as raw inside players known for their shot-blocking abilities who developed all-round games.
