Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for December 11th and December 16th, 2015

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.

Some of the upcoming events include: Short Loop Trail Hike, Night Hike, Sunset Hike, Bird Hike, Dunbar History Hike and Port Royal Trail of Tears.

Friday, December 11th

Short Loop Trail Hike

Time: 9:00am – 10:00am
Ages: All ages

Join us on this hike through the woods to see what we can see.

Reservations Required by: 4:30pm, December 9th.
Program Leader: Amy Wallace, Interpretive Specialist


Night Hike

Time: 4:30pm – 5:30pm
Ages: All ages

We will walk the Short Loop Trail as darkness rises– we might hear owls, frogs and other creatures as we go.

Saturday, December 12th

Sunset Hike

Time: 3:30pm – 4:30pm
Ages: All ages

The light is wonderful this time of day at this time of the year. Come out and experience the sunset lighting up the trees.

Monday, December 14th

Night Hike

Time: 4:30pm – 5:30pm
Ages: All ages

Bird Hike

Time: 8:30am – 10:00am
Ages: Adults

It’s easier to learn the birds when there aren’t so many around (and when they aren’t hiding in the leaves) – bring your binoculars and learn about our feathered inhabitants.

Dunbar History Hike

Time: 3:30pm – 4:30pm
Ages: 5 – adult

Learn about how Dunbar Cave was used long ago on this hike around the grounds.

Wednesday, December 16th

Port Royal Trail of Tears

Time: 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Ages: 8 – adult

Meet at the River Bottom Trail parking lot to learn about the Trail of Tears at Port Royal Historic Area.

Reservations Required by: 4:30pm, December 14th.
Program Leader: Adam Neblett, Ranger

Dunbar Cave State Park Programs Information

Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the Deadline Listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline will be canceled.

All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.

Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children).

Age limits are definite – please do not sign up a child who is younger or older than the age limits given.

Dunbar Cave State Park is located at 401 Old Dunbar Cave Road, Clarksville Tennessee.

Port Royal State Historic Park is located at 3300 Old Clarksville Springfield Road, Adams, Tennessee.
