Tennessee Representative Curtis Johnson, APSU President Alisa White Appointed to Governor’s Education Task Force

 

Tennessee, higher education leaders to provide guidance on Drive to 55 alignment plan

Tennessee State Representative - District 68Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam announced this week his appointments to the new education task force focused on offering guidance related to the administration’s proposed Focus On College and University Success (FOCUS) Act during the upcoming session of the Tennessee General Assembly.

Comprised of higher education leaders and professionals, the task force will have two components: a steering committee to provide high level implementation guidance to the governor and a working group that will offer technical assistance and report back to the steering committee.

State of TennesseeNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam today announced the members of the transition task force to offer guidance on the proposed Focus On College and University Success (FOCUS) Act during the legislative process and potential implementation if approved by the Tennessee General Assembly.

Comprised of higher education leaders and professionals, the transition task force will have two components: a steering committee to provide high level implementation guidance to the governor and a working group that will offer technical assistance and report back to the steering committee.

Clarksville Police report Cumberland Bank and Trust Robbery Suspect James Halbrooks in Custody

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – On December 4th, 2015, the Clarksville Police Department assisted the FBI with the execution of a search warrant at the home of 49-year-old James Halbrooks from Clarksville.

Halbrooks was taken into custody and charged with the robbery of Cumberland Bank and Trust that occurred on November 24th, 2015.

56th Annual Clarksville Lighted Christmas Parade was a delight for all

 

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – The 56th Annual Clarksville Lighted Christmas Parade was held Saturday, December 5th, 2015. The theme this year was “Songs of Christmas”. It Started at 5:00pm.

The City of Clarksville and Montgomery County Government hosts the Christmas Parade. The Grand Marshall for the parade was Rudy Kalis of Channel 4 news.

Montgomery County ushers in Christmas with Caroling and Lighting of the County Tree

 

Montgomery County TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – The Christmas season kicked off Saturday, December 5th on the Montgomery County Court House steps as crowds gathered to listen to Christmas caroling by local students. There was also hot chocolate available inside the Montgomery County Courts Complex.

The caroling started at 4:00pm and continued right up to the start of the Clarksville Montgomery County Annual Lighted Christmas Parade.

Clarksville Gas and Water reports McAdoo Creek Road Water Outage

Austin Peay State University names Xavier University IT executive director Judy Molnar as new CIO

 

Austin Peay State University - APSU - logoClarksville, TN – Judy Molnar, a seasoned information technology professional, was recently named associate vice president and chief information officer (CIO) for Information Technology at Austin Peay State University.

Charles Wall previously served as the University’s CIO, but he retired in May after 43 years of service to APSU.

Cumberland Arts Centre’s “One Christmas Night” to feature Veteran Actors, December 11th-19th

 

Cumberland Arts Centre Dinner Theatre - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Audiences attending the Cumberland Arts Centre’s Dinner Theatre production of “One Christmas Night,” will be treated to the talents of several veteran actors from the community. Heading the cast is Benny Jones, who is well known in local theaters, having just completed his run in “Smoke” and “Spirit” in Adams, TN this fall.

Jones is also known for his numerous roles at the Roxy Regional Theatre as well as the Cumberland Arts Centre. Jones has also worked at the Barn Dinner Theatre in Nashville and played the title role in “Hamlet” in Monterey, CA.

American Heart Association says Sex differences in Type 2 Diabetes affect Cardiovascular Disease Risk

American Heart AssociationDallas, TX – Women with Type 2 diabetes are twice as likely to have coronary heart disease compared to men, and may also need more frequent and intense physical activity to lower their risk of having a heart attack or stroke, according to a new American Heart Association scientific statement published in the association’s journal Circulation.

In the United States slightly more than nine percent of the population had diabetes in 2012, and the number of people with Type 2 diabetes is increasing at a rapid rate.
