Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TNChris Horton scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while the smothering Austin Peay State University defense limited Jacksonville State to just 30 percent shooting as the Governors rolled to a 73-54 victory, Thursday night, in Ohio Valley Conference action played in Dave Aaron Arena.

The victory improved the Govs to 8-9 overall and 1-1 in the OVC while Jacksonville State fell to 5-13 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam Appoints Roger Amos Page to Tennessee Supreme Court

 

Appointed to replace Justice Gary R. Wade, subject to confirmation by the Tennessee General Assembly

Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam today appointed Roger Amos Page of Madison County to the Tennessee Supreme Court, replacing Justice Gary R. Wade, who retired in September.

Page, 60, has been a judge on the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals since his appointment by Haslam in December 2011, writing more than 330 appellate opinions.

UT Lady Vols Basketball lose 74-66 at home to Florida Gators

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Diamond DeShields had 16 points and Bashaara Graves hauled down a career-high 19 rebounds, but the No. 12/11 Lady Vols fell to Florida, 74-66, on Thursday in Thompson-Boling Arena after a second-half surge by the Gators.

Tennessee (10-4, 1-1 SEC) led 35-29 at the half. Florida (13-2, 1-1 SEC) knotted the game at 53-53 by the end of the third quarter and outscored the Lady Vols in the fourth, 21-13, to earn its first win over UT since February 8th, 2009.

Thursday’s game also marked Tennessee’s first loss to Florida at Thompson-Boling Arena since February 26th, 2006.

TWRA announces portions of Northwest Tennessee for Young Sportsman Deer Hunt

 

Portions of Northwest Tennessee Closed for Young Sportsman Deer Hunt

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission has voted to close portions of northwest Tennessee for this weekend’s Young Sportsman Deer Hunt due to severe flooding along the Mississippi River.

The commission met via conference call on Thursday morning to discuss the flooding in areas in the West Tennessee area and how it would impact this weekend’s scheduled two-day Young Sportsman Deer Hunt.

“The flood waters in West Tennessee, occurring uncharacteristically during deer hunting season, offered a unique challenge as the commissioners and agency strive to protect wildlife but still offer as much opportunity as possible,” said TWRA Executive Director Ed Carter. “After hearing from constituents about deer being stranded on high ground, the commissioners asked for a teleconference briefing and asked multiple questions ranging from the impact to the deer herd to those who might pursue deer in flooded areas.” «Read the rest of this article»

Clarksville Police Department releases Alcoholic Beverage Commission Operation results from January 6th, 2016

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – On Wednesday, January 6th, 2016, Alcohol Beverage Control Agents (ABC) of the Clarksville Police Department’s Special Operations Unit conducted operations in conjunction with Tennessee State Alcohol Beverage Control Agents targeting the sales of alcohol to underage persons.

Compliance checks were conducted on 16 businesses with beer sales permits and or alcohol sales permits with 3 businesses found to be in violation and cited for sales of alcohol to underage persons.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Senior guard Tiasha Gray, of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Gray led all scorers with 21 points and added 10 assists and five boards to lead Austin Peay to a 94-66 win in its Ohio Valley Conference opener against Eastern Kentucky.

Facing a box-and-one defensive look from the Colonels in the opening quarter, Gray looked to her teammates first en route to her eighth career double-double; Gray attempted just one shot in the opening frame and was an efficient 6-for-11 on the evening.
