UT Vols Basketball falls late to Texas A&M Aggies, 92-88

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN The Thompson-Boling Arena magic looked for more than 37 minutes as if it would continue for another game for Tennessee, but a 13-1 run late in the second half led the No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies to a 92-88 win over the Volunteers on Saturday afternoon.

Tennessee led by eight points at halftime and as many as 13 in the second half. The advantage ranged from six to 10 points throughout the second period until the A&M run.

Detrick Mostella, who scored 11 points on the afternoon, had his 3-point attempt that would have given the Vols the lead with under 10 seconds left in the game rim out, sealing the win for A&M.

First Snowfall expected tonight for Clarksville-Montgomery County

 

National Weather ServiceNashville, TN – The National Weather Service (NWS) says the first snowfall of 2016 likely in Clarksville-Montgomery County as well as parts of Middle Tennessee tonight as light to moderate rains move through the mid-state tonight.

Cold air is expected to close in quickly. This will cause the rain to change over to snow leaving many spots in Middle Tennessee with their first snowfall accumulations of the year. Snow accumulations are going to be tricky.

Expectations are that counties in far northwest Middle Tennessee, closest to the Tennessee River and Kentucky are going to see the brunt of this system.

Tipoff is slated for 2:01pm ET (1:01pm CT), and the game will be broadcast on ESPNU and available online via WatchESPN.

Both teams started with wins over ranked teams in their respective conference openers but fell on Thursday night. After drawing a Monday night matchup this week at Missouri, the UT women are playing their third of three games in a span of seven days this week.

Tennessee Treasurer David Lillard Awards $10,000 in TNStars Scholarships to Winners from Around the State

Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – Treasurer David H. Lillard, Jr. started 2016 by awarding $1,000 scholarships to the winners of the TNStars, 10 Kids: $10,000 Holiday Scholarship Giveaway.

Doug Stamper, Austin Peay’s ‘Mr. Clutch,’ passes away

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay has learned that Doug Stamper, who was the University’s first All-Ohio Valley Conference basketball selection, has died after a long illness. He was 73 years old.

A Hamilton, Ohio native, Stamper was a member of the last Governors basketball team to compete in the Volunteer State Athletic Association. He also was a member of the first Governors basketball team to compete in the Ohio Valley Conference. Stamper also was a member of the first Governors basketball team to have a black player—L.M. Ellis—on its roster. He was a member of the first Austin Peay athletics team to fly in an airplane. In addition, Stamper was the first Governors basketball player to earn All-OVC.
