National Weather Service issues update on Winter Storm headed toward Clarksville-Montgomery County, Friday

 

National Weather ServiceNashville, TN – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Nashville has issued a winter storm warning for snow and ice which is in effect from 6:00pm Friday to 6:00am CT Saturday for Clarksville-Montgomery County and most of Middle Tennessee.

A potent weather system will move into the region tonight offering up quite a bit of rain. But, as we get into the pre dawn hours on Friday, cold air supportive of wintry weather will begin to move into Middle Tennessee.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Sophomore guard Josh Robinson nailed a long three-pointer with 0.3 seconds left to send the game to overtime and then provided seven points in the extra session, including the game-sealing free throws in the closing seconds, as Austin Peay State University rallied for a 90-86 Ohio Valley Conference victory, Thursday night, in Dave Aaron Arena.

The victory snapped a three-game Govs losing streak and improved them to 9-12 overall and 2-4 in the OVC. It also was Dave Loos‘ 400th APSU coaching victory—Loos is the OVC’s all-time wins leader.

Clarksville Police reports Icy Interstate Overpasses

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department reports the overpasses on I-24 near Exit 8 and Exit 11 are becoming icy, due to the freezing rain. Vehicles are sliding off the roadway in these areas.

The best choice for safety tonight is to stay off the roads. Due to the predicted inclement weather throughout the night and the early morning hours, the roads will not get any better for travel.

UT Lady Vols Basketball gets 58-49 home win over Vanderbilt Commodores

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN Tennessee relied on its stingy defense and a strong third quarter to remain undefeated at home against Vanderbilt, improving to 31-0 all-time in Knoxville against the Commodores with a 58-49 victory Thursday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Lady Vols had to withstand a late fourth-quarter rally from their in-state rivals after leading by as many as 13 points in the final frame.

Freshman guard Te’a Cooper led Tennessee with 13 points and Tennessee forced the Commodores into 23 turnovers while holding them to just 37 percent shooting for the game.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSOClarksville, TN – Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson would like to remind residents we are under a winter storm warning from 6:00am on Friday to 6:00am on Saturday.

With both the county’s largest employers, Fort Campbell and the Clarksville Montgomery County School System closed or on a limited operating schedule for Friday, the Sheriff’s Office encourages all residents to stay at home and stay off the roads.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Although Saturday’s doubleheader is still scheduled to be played between Austin Peay State University and Eastern Illinois, the Red Coat Society induction has been postponed until February 27th, 2016.

With inclement weather expected to hit Clarksville much of Friday, it has been determined this year’s Red Coat Society induction ceremony of Dave Luther and Ed Baggett will be postponed to the late February date when the Govs play host to Southeast Missouri in a 4:00pm doubleheader.
