The Governors finished the first half of OVC action with a 5-3 mark and are tied for fourth place in the league’s standings table with Southeast Missouri.

Austin Peay begins the second half of its OVC slate with a tough four-game trip that starts with Saturday’s game against Southeast Missouri followed by a Wednesday contest at second-place UT Martin.

Austin Peay begins the road trip after suffering a 72-61 loss to league-leading SIU Edwardsville, Wednesday. The loss snapped the Govs four-game home win streak and a two-game overall win streak. APSU led the league’s top team by nine points midway through the third quarter, but could not overcome an eight-minute stretch without a field goal that consumed parts of the third and fourth quarters.

Senior guard Tiasha Gray, battling a stomach bug, led Austin Peay with a 20-point, four-assist, seven-steal performance. It was her 28th consecutive double-digit scoring effort and was a season-best outing in steals. Junior center Tearra Banks added 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting. However, the duo could not top an SIUE team that saw four players reach double-digit scoring territory.

Southeast Missouri continues its three-game homestand following a six-day break. The Redhawks fell to second-place UT Martin, 84-74, Sunday. Redshirt freshman forward Imani Johnson led SEMO with 18 points off the bench – her sixth double-digit scoring effort in eight OVC games. Southeast Missouri is 3-1 at the Show Me Center during OVC play and 6-3 there this season.

Saturday’s contest will be the 54th meeting between Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri, with the Governors owning a 28-25 series lead. APSU swept last season’s series, 2-0, and has won the last three meetings in the series.

Gray Milestone Watch Continues
Senior guard Tiasha Gray became only the fifth APSU women’s basketball player to reach the 1,500-point plateau with her 27-point performance at East Tennessee, December 21st.

About the APSU Lady Govs

Facing one of the nation’s toughest nonconference slates (25th ranked) took its toll early as APSU averaged just 59.3 points per game against its 11 Division I opponents.

It has popped the lid on its offense in conference action, averaging 77.9 points per game and topping the 80-point barrier five times in its first eight games.

During the nonconference portion of the schedule, Gray and Banks scored over 50 percent of APSU’s points.

However, that percentage has declined in OVC play, with the duo averaging just 41 percent of the team’s scoring.

About the Southeast Missouri Redhawks

Southeast Missouri RedhawksSoutheast Missouri returns to action after a six-day break and will seek to end a two-game losing streak, Saturday. The Redhawks two-game losing streak came at the hands of the league’s top two teams (SIUE and UT Martin).

Southeast Missouri has been without the services of leading scorer Olivia Hackmann since early December after she suffered a foot injury. She was the Redhawks leading scorer in five of the nine games she played. Since her loss, SEMO is 8-4 with four different players leading the team in scoring.
