The Governors are coming off an 86-80 win at Southeast Missouri, Saturday, for its first OVC road victory and fourth overall this season.

The victory improved the Governors to 10-14 overall and 3-6 in the OVC.

The Govs placed four players in double figures, led by sophomore guard Josh Robinson, who had 30 points on 9-of-16 shooting (seven three pointers). But senior forward Khalil Davis had his best game of January with 18 points while junior forward Kenny Jones broke out of scoring slump with 12 points.

It was a game the Govs led by as much as 13 second-half points but also watched SEMO come back to take the lead, albeit briefly. APSU made plays on both ends of the floor in the final three minutes to secure the victory.

Meanwhile, UT Martin also is coming off an important victory, this one a 63-59 home verdict against then-OVC West leader Murray State last Saturday. In that game, the Skyhawks rode the trio of guard Alex Anderson (20 points), forward Twymond Howard (19 points) and forward Kedar Edwards (12 points, 11 rebounds) as they improved their home record to 6-2 on the season.

UT Martin, 11-12 overall and 3-5 in the OVC, was picked to finish second in the OVC West–right behind Murray State–in the league preseason poll. Howard leads UTM at 13.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Fellow preseason All-OVC selection Alex Anderson is at 11.7 points per outing. The Skyhawks have been buoyed by the return of senior post player Myles Taylor, who has battled knee problems in his career. He is averaging 10.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

The Govs were swept in last season’s series but still hold a 70-27 series advantage that dates back to 1935.
