APSU Lady Govs Tennis loses close one to Dayton

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team lost its first match of 2016, Friday, coming out on the wrong end of a 4-3 battle against Dayton at the Governors Tennis Center.

The Govs (1-1) fell behind the eight ball early in the day, allowing the Flyers (4-1) to earn the vital doubles point.

Tennessee General Assembly Hears Governors State Of The State Address

Tennessee State Representative - District 68Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam delivered his annual State of the State Address to a joint convention of the legislature this week, unveiling his budget for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. Haslam addressed multiple issues during the State of the State, the most prominent of which include job recruitment and workforce development, a continued push to make government more efficient and effective, and major investments in both K-12 and higher education.

Among the key points in the Governor’s speech was a focus on a balanced budget, low taxes, fiscal responsibility, and the proposal of 261 million in new dollars for Tennessee public education, including $104.6 million for teacher salaries — the largest investment in K-12 education without a tax increase in state history.

APSU Lady Govs Tennis picked seventh in OVC preseason ranks

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team was picked to finish seventh in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll, gaining 44 points and one first-place vote.

Furthermore, freshmen Lidia Yanes Garcia and Claudia Yanes Garcia received top-10 player grades – ranking fifth and 10th, respectively.

APSU Governors Golf selected seventh in OVC preseason poll

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team has been picked to finish seventh in the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference championship in a vote of league coaches.

The Governors finished fifth in last spring’s OVC championships, although they were second heading into the tourney’s final day.

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team was picked to finish sixth in the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference championship in a vote of league coaches.

The OVC Women’s Golf Championship again will be contested at Hampton Cove on the Robert Trent Jones Trail in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama (just outside Huntsville), April 18th-20th.

The Vols (11-11, 4-5 SEC) are looking to snap a three-game losing streak in Fayetteville and find its first win there since 2009. Tennessee leads the all-time series 19-16, but dropped two of the three meetings between the programs last season. Meanwhile, the Razorbacks (11-11, 4-5 SEC) return home to Bud Walton Arena after suffering an 87-83 defeat at Florida on Wednesday night. Arkansas is 10-3 at home this season, boasting victories over Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, and No. 5 Texas A&M.

Clarksville Gas and Water reports Campbell Mobile Home Estates Water Outage

Clarksville Gas and Water Department - CGWClarksville, TN – Clarksville Gas and Water construction workers will turn off water service at approximately 3:30pm to Campbell Mobile Home Estates to repair a water main leak.

The water outage will affect residents on Eagle Street, Airborne Street, Nam Street, Normandy Street, Huey Circle and Bastogne Street until approximately 8:30pm. this evening when the repair is anticipated to be finished and water service restored.

Tennessee State Trooper makes Traffic Stop and finds huge amount of Crystal Meth

 

Tennessee Highway Patrol - THPNashville, TN – The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s East Bureau Interdiction Plus Team (IPT) initiated a traffic stop that led to the discovery of 13 kilometers (equal to 29 pounds) of crystal meth, and the arrest of a Texas man on felony drug charges.

Trooper Scott stopped a 2003 Chevy Suburban for a traffic violation on Interstate 40 eastbound in Knox County at approximately 3:40pm on Monday, February 1st, 2016.  The vehicle was occupied by a male driver, who gave multiple conflicting stories regarding his travel destinations.
