Candidates for the rating undergo multiple unannounced evaluations and a final decision by a panel of experts. Using guidelines weighted by member priorities, inspectors meticulously evaluate food quality, guest services and physical attributes to assess the level of competence, refinement and hospitality and assign a rating of One to Five Diamonds.

  • Four and Five Diamond restaurants represent just over 2 percent of the more than 30,000 AAA/CAA Approved and Diamond Rated restaurants.
  • A total of 683 restaurants throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean received the Four
  • Diamond Rating in the past 12 months, qualifying them for the 2016 Four Diamond Award list.

Rating Process

AAA rates hotels and restaurants using a scale of one to five diamonds, with five being the best. Hotels are judged by secret AAA Inspectors, who make unannounced visits, documenting guest services and physical attributes of the property. A panel of experts then assigns the final rating.
