APSU names Tiasha Gray Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Senior guard Tiasha Gray, of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Gray earned adidas® / Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week honors after averaging 21.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 3.0 rebounds for the Govs last week, including 29 points in Austin Peay’s 80-70 toppling of conference-leading UT Martin, Saturday. She shared the award with Murray State’s Ke’Shunan James—the two will meet in Saturday’s contest at the Dunn Center.

It’s Gray’s third weekly OVC honor in 2015-16 and the sixth in the Clarksville native’s APSU career.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Freshman pole vaulter Savannah Amato, of the track and field team, earned OVC Indoor Female Field Athlete of the Week honors after equaling her season-best 3.81m (12-06.00) mark at the Music City Challenge, where she finished eighth overall.
  • Senior center Chris Horton and junior forward Kenny Jones, of the men’s basketball team, provided plenty of fire-power down low for the Govs last week. Horton averaged 19.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks on 59.1 percent (13-of-22) shooting, while Jones added 18.5 ppg, 10.0 rpg and shot 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the floor.
  • Redshirt freshman outfielder Kacy Acree, of the softball team, homered in her first career at-bat in the season-opening 15-12 win at Gardner-Webb, Friday. Acree, who sat out last season due to a knee injury, drove in five runs to pace the APSU attack.
