APSU Lady Govs Softball plays in Trojan Warrior Tournament this weekend

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will look to rebound from a tough final day at the Hilltopper Classic when it travels to Troy, Alabama, to play in the Trojan Warrior Tournament.

The Lady Govs (2-3), who dropped their final two tourney games last Saturday, will open the Trojan Warrior Tournament, 2:30pm, Friday versus Missouri State; followed Saturday with games versus Dayton (9:30am) and Mercer (1:00pm). They conclude play, noon, Sunday, versus tournament host Troy.

Austin Peay is no stranger to three of its four opponents this week as the Lady Govs are 0-3 all-time versus Missouri State, 4-11 versus Mercer and 3-7 versus Troy. The meeting with Dayton will be the first between the two schools.

APSU's Sidney HooperOffense has stepped to the forefront during the Lady Govs’ first two weeks of play as they enter this weekend averaging six runs per game, with six players hitting .300 or better.

Juniors Sidney Hooper (.556) and Rikki Arkansas (.429) lead the way, while freshman Kendall Vedder (.357) rounds out the top three batting averages.

Junior Chandler Groves leads Austin Peay with five runs scored, while Vedder and redshirt freshman Kacy Acree top APSU with five RBIs each.

APSU's Rikki ArkansasIn the circle, a pair of juniors, Allie Blackwood and Autumn Hanners, have recorded the Lady Govs two wins this season out of the pen.

Hanners tossed three shutout innings versus Western Kentucky to pick up APSU’s only win last weekend.

The Trojan Warrior Tournament is the third of four season-opening road weekends for the Lady Govs, before they play their home opener, March 12th, at Cheryl Holt Field versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
