2016, 2017 OVC Softball Championship to be held at Choccolocco Park

 

Ohio Valley Conference - OVCBrentwood, TN – The Ohio Valley Conference Board of Athletic Directors and Board of Presidents have approved a plan to move the OVC Softball Championship to the neutral site of Oxford, AL, for the next two years beginning with the 2016 season. The eight-team double-elimination tournament will be held May 11th-14th at Choccolocco Park.

“We are delighted to host our softball championship at a first-class venue and are grateful for the support of the city leaders of Oxford,” said OVC Commissioner Beth DeBauche.

UT Vols upset Vanderbilt Commodores 67-65 in SEC Tournament

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsNashville, TN – Tennessee dominated the first half and withstood a late Vanderbilt surge to defeat the Commodores, 67-65, on Thursday at Bridgestone Arena and advance to the SEC Tournament quarterfinals.

The Vols (15-18) will next face No. 4 seed LSU (18-13) on Friday in the quarterfinals.

For a moment, No. 5 seed Vanderbilt (19-13) looked like it had sent the game into overtime. However, Wade Baldwin IV’s layup with time expiring was waived off after replays showed the ball still rolling off his fingers with zeros on the clock.

Tennessee Department of Health says Emma, William lead the polls for Top Tennessee Baby Names

 

Tennessee Department of HealthNashville, TN – Tennessee parents have voted and placed incumbents Emma and William at the top of the poll of names chosen for babies born in 2015.

Votes are tallied by the dedicated team in the Tennessee Office of Vital Records, which registers some 240,000 new records of births, deaths, marriages and divorces every year.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Senior center Chris Horton, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Horton earned 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament MVP honors after averaging 22.5 points and 14.0 rebounds in the Governors four wins en route to their fifth OVC Tournament Championship.

Clarksville Police Department cites Kangaroo Express during March 9th Alcoholic Beverage Commission Operation

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – On March 9th, 2016, Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Agents of the Clarksville Police Department’s Special Operation Unit conducted operations targeting the sales of alcohol to underage persons.

Compliance checks were done on 14 businesses with 13 businesses being found in compliance and 1 business, Kangaroo Express at 1874 Memorial Drive, cited for sales of alcohol to underage persons.

IRS Has $17 Million for Tennessee Taxpayers Who Have Not Filed a 2012 Tax Return

 

Internal Revenue Service - IRSAtlanta, GA – Refunds totaling $950 million may be waiting for an estimated one million taxpayers in the nation who did not file a federal income tax return for 2012. In Tennessee, over $17 million in unclaimed refunds awaits 19,700 individuals. However, to collect the money, a return for 2012 must be filed with the IRS no later than Monday, April 18th 2016.

“Time is running out if you want to get your refund,” said IRS Spokesman Mark Green. “Taxpayers should review their 2012 statements for refundable credits and withholdings.  We want all taxpayers to get the refund they’re due.”

Tennessee Titans sign multi year contract with Houston Texans center Ben Jones

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – Ben Jones (6-3, 308) joins the Tennessee Titans after four seasons and 64 games (43 starts) with the Houston Texans. During his four seasons in the NFL, he registered 16 starts at center, 16 starts at left guard and 11 starts at right guard.

Over the last two years, Houston ranked seventh in sacks allowed (62) and ninth in rushing yards (3,892).
